Plan ahead

Save time and unnecessary stress by getting into the habit of noticing how much of something is left over-especially often-used beauty and personal care items such as toilet paper, toothpaste, dental floss, soap or shampoo-and put it on your shopping list before you run out, to avoid extra trips to the supermarket.

Keep a Stash Handy

Always have a stock of light bulbs for your fridge and oven on hand. They fail at the most inconvenient times.

Quick Access

Wall-mounted aluminium foil, plastic wrap and paper towel holders provide instant access, which saves time spent searching through kitchen drawers. Other handy items to think about having are utensil caddy, a magnetic knife rack and a mug tree.

Good lighting for maximum efficiency

Proper ceiling lighting is essential for doing almost any job in the kitchen, and it should be positioned so that it shines on what you are doing rather than on your back.

If it's possible provide natural light during daylight hours through large windows or skylights, and consider installing extra lights under wall uints, over the sink, over the stovetop and any preparation areas.

Another option is to fit lights inside cupboards which can be set to go on and off automatically when you open and close the doors.

Timely Tip-A Point on Power
Plan to install twice as many power points as you think you'll ever need-you will use them! Ask the electrician to set the kitchen up on a separate circuit from the rest of the house.

Spare Tiles

Keep extra tiles on hand in case you have to replace some that are damaged. Styles and colours go out of fashion and you can spend weeks chasing tiles that will match.
